Is Nude Art Porn?

When I read what many porn lovers say, the answer is clear: Nude Art is porn. But softcore in comparison to hardcore. And when we look at some nuances like masturbation and toy play, even I must confess that the borders between both are often not lucid. So let us have a closer look.

Sexual activity between women and men in movies and photo sets is called porn. That much is clear. So it's coherent that explicit and intimate sexual activities (with penetration!) between women in movies and photo sets is called porn, too! (The same with boy/boy scenes.) But what exactly happens here in the minds of the viewers? I would say: when the movie is good, it will cause excitement, arousal, maybe - but not necessarily - ecstasy. When the movie is good, female watchers get wet, male watchers get boners. Maybe they start their own masturbation activity. Do they identify themselves with the actors? I would say yes, even when I think there are exceptions. In an earlier text I wrote about a woman who wanted to get inspiration for blowjob scenes from porn movies. She necessarily identified herself with the women in the movies! "I want to do it like her!" she thought. And I think men think likewise related to the male actors! Porn scenes invite to see yourself as one of the actresses or actors. The essential status of your mind by watching porn is 'horniness', even when an educational or any other focus is given. Plain and simple. The main attraction must be called 'witnessing interactive sexual activities'!

Porn lovers who see solo scenes, often complain about models who don't do hardcore scenes! They think something is missing! They want to see female models with a man. Porn lovers are the ones who see Nude Art as 'softcore porn'. They see it as kind of a prologue and the mission of a model is only completed once she made a 'real porn movie' (with at least one man).

Let's turn the perspective around. Nude Art as we know and love it, is most of the time explicit solo performance! The celebration of a beautiful body. Detailed, up close and personal. Male fans of solo Nude Art hardly want to identify with the actress. It might happen, but certainly not regularly. They want to see, to admire and to study(!) her beauty! And actually the less the model does in the photos and movies, the more she 'just' poses, the more detailed a viewer can see and enjoy every part of her body in all kinds of poses. All at ease, with no rush or any pressure to get excited. The essential status of a Nude Art lover's mind is voyeurism! And that's a completely different starting position than porn lovers have! I would even say that Nude Art lovers and porn lovers are a completely different bunch of people! Even when there is a voyeuristic degree by watching a porn movie, it is connected to the sexual activity between at least two people! Not to their bodies in the first place! The consequence of my line of thoughts is, that porn and Nude Art are two completely different things. Activity vs. purely visual attraction.

When solo Nude Art is a prologue for porn for the one, it is the main attraction for others! Please note that there is no judgement involved here! And none of both groups should look down on the other. But it is clear that there ARE 2 groups, even when I hear from porn fans very often that they accuse Nude Art fans of lying and hiding their true desires.

There are some borderline categories. While gay scenes between men are without exception pornographic, Lesbian scenes are more diversified. Somewhere between watching two models walking naked through the forest, walking, talking, laughing, enjoying their time, and witnessing them having an intimate encounter in bed or elsewhere with kissing, touching, fingering and orgasming, girl/girl scenes cross the border existing between porn and Nude Art. While forest scenes still satisfy the voyeuristic needs to see and admire nude bodies in naturist life styles, the sexual activity and maybe the idea of becoming a part of it, satisfies different needs.

The same can be said about toy and masturbation solo scenes. For me, as a declared fan of pure Nude Art (who still makes occasional visits across the border), it depends on the intensity of toy play and fingering, if I really like a scene. My attention is always and implicitly focused on the model. The more the masturbation sequence or the toy play defines the scene, the more it becomes likely that I lose my voyeuristic interest in it! Sometimes I get the feeling that they make masturbation scenes for lack of inspiration, for ignoring the potential of a model to give a stunning and intense performance by 'just being there', naked. Which is the main sensation for Nude Art fans. And I know it happens often, when planned shoots are already done but the afternoon of shooting is not over yet, that they make some masturbation scenes additionally, even on the same bed. This is the more sad, when the real quality of a Nude Art scene lies in the diversity of situations and 'storylines' in which the model can show her performance skills. When you are a longtime fan of Milena, you know exactly what I mean! Her presence shows different facets in almost every scene, since her approach to each scene is unique and different every time, depending on the mood at the day of shooting as well as on the intended mood and expression the scene is planned to have.

Don't get it wrong: I don't say that a masturbation or toy scenes don't need any skills. On the contrary! There are masters of masturbation performances in biz. But I say that they satisfy the needs of porn fans more than those of Nude Art addicts. I see of course, in contrast to what I said above about 'lack of inspiration', that a major network, known for highest quality, has more than just one extra site focusing on masturbation. So it is clear to me that the demand and the acceptance of fans for masturbation scenes seems to be very high, no matter what I say. But this is not about pros and cons for anything. This is to see the line between porn and Nude Art. And here I see masturbation scenes more on the porn side. They serve other needs than Nude Art does.

So there is a familiarity between Nude Art and porn. Both are departments of Erotic Art! But the important difference is, that their fans are enjoying their sets and movies out of very different reasons! Nude Art fans can't find what they really want - a meditative and clear view on a body of personified beauty - in a porn movie, where too many bodies and body parts hide the view! Porn fans only hesitatingly watch solo scenes, where the interaction, the penetration is missing.

Very important in this regard is the fans' acceptance of the models' decisions what to do, and what to do not! It is a declaration of love for pure Nude Art, not to do scenes with highly pornographic sequences. It is the attempt to explore Nude Art to the full potential, without getting distracted by 'side issues'.

All these thoughts are not meant to decide between 'good' or 'bad' Erotic Art! On the contrary! I wanted to show that the clear difference, the satisfaction of very different needs in porn and Nude Art, is a part of the high diversity of Erotic Art! It's not all the same, it's not an evaluation in soft and hard! Porn and Nude Art are two completely different chapters in the book of eroticism. You can enjoy both, in different moods, or you can like the one more than the other. As long as both ways exist by the appreciation of their fans.
